ISCC launches Regenerative Agriculture add-on to strengthen sustainable agricultural supply chains
We are excited to share that our Regenerative Agriculture add-on just launched! It supports agricultural supply chains in implementing, verifying, and credibly communicating regenerative agriculture practices. The add-on can be applied globally and integrates with the established ISCC EU, PLUS, Canada CFR, and Japan FIT certification schemes, promoting transparent and traceable supply chains.
What is regenerative agriculture?
Regenerative agriculture is an approach to farming that aims to restore ecosystem functions while maintaining productivity. It focuses on improving soil health, supporting biodiversity, enhancing water retention, and reducing erosion. By doing so, it helps strengthen climate resilience and contributes to more sustainable agricultural practices.
The ISCC Regenerative Agriculture add-on
Our Regenerative Agriculture add-on is a voluntary module that can be combined with ISCC EU, PLUS, Canada CFR or Japan FIT certification. It builds on our established environmental and social sustainability requirements (ISCC Principles 1–6) and provides a structured, auditable approach to implementing regenerative practices at the farm and plantation levels.
The add-on follows an outcome-based approach, focusing on measurable improvements while allowing flexibility in how farmers achieve them. It is structured around four key focus areas: soil health, water health, biodiversity, and climate.
Improvements to the focus areas are achieved through scientifically grounded measures and clearly defined indicators. In practice, this includes action and documentation on key levers such as soil cover (e.g., cover crops/residues), crop rotation and diversification, reduced soil disturbance, and measures to create and protect biodiversity-supporting habitat.
The add-on combines a set of core requirements with a selection of advanced measures, enabling farmers and supply chain actors to implement regenerative practices individually and progressively.
Developed through supply chain collaboration
We developed the add-on in pilot projects beginning in 2023. ISCC System Users Bunge and Neste were part of this collaboration, along with Texas A&M University, and NDSU North Dakota State University.
In February 2026, the joint efforts concluded in a first measurable impact. A pilot audit was conducted at the Hungarian Agroplanta Kft. farm supplying Bunge in Hungary. It brought together the farmer, an ISCC-qualified auditor from the Certification Body Bureau Veritas, and representatives from Bunge and ISCC to review and assess on-farm implementation against the draft ISCC Regenerative Agriculture requirements. The visit provided in-depth feedback and further refined the add-on’s credibility and practicability for farms and buyers. It also demonstrated the add-on’s efficiency for existing ISCC System Users, as it builds on ISCC principles and documentation. In practice, this means that records such as documentation logs can be used for both certification and add-on, minimising additional administrative burden.
Apply the ISCC Regenerative Agriculture add-on now
The ISCC Regenerative Agriculture add-on supports the verifiable implementation of regenerative agricultural practices across farms and supply chains. Whether farmers are looking to strengthen soil health and resilience, agricultural businesses aim to future-proof production, or supply chain partners seek credible sustainability reporting, our add-on offers a practical solution – supporting more resilient supply chains that reduce climate-related disruptions and help protect long-term revenue.
