ISCC Japan FIT Pre-Certification

Japan FITpre-certification

Demonstrate the project’s level of alignment with the requirements for the use of sustainable biomass in renewable electricity generation under Japan’s Feed-in Tariff (FIT) and Feed-in Premium (FIP) schemes, established under the Special Measures Act Concerning the Procurement of Renewable Energy (Act No. 108 of 2011) and guided by Japan’s latest Strategic Energy Plan.

Qualified auditors conduct these document-based pre-audits for projects at the design stage or later to evaluate alignment with the FIT/FIP requirements. The process follows standard ISCC Japan FIT audit procedures and assesses management systems, traceability, chain of custody, GHG emissions, and ecological and social sustainability requirements.

The process results in two Certification Body-issued outputs

Pre-audit report

documented using the ISCC Japan FIT Audit Procedures templates

Pre-certification report

summarising the project’s readiness and plan to improve compliance ahead of a later certification audit

The pre-certification report is submitted to ISCC for approval. Pre-certification provides valuable feedback for Economic Operators, regulating authorities, investors, and other project stakeholders, offering a third-party assessment of certification readiness for sustainable use of biomass in renewable electricity generation under Japan’s FIT/FIP schemes. It does not result in a certificate or certification decision and cannot be used as a basis for sustainability claims.

Roles ofstakeholdersin pre-certification

ISCC
