ISCC Cooperating Certification Bodies (CBs) verify compliance with ISCC sustainability, traceability, and, where applicable, greenhouse gas (GHG) requirements across global supply chains. As an ISCC CB, your organisation is authorised to perform independent certification activities within the scope of its recognition and contributes to the integrity and credibility of the ISCC system.

Each scheme includes specific regulatory, accreditation, and scheme-specific requirements, as well as additional competence requirements.
A note on the ISCC EU scheme: In line with European Commission expectations, CBs shall hold ISO/IEC 17065:2012 accreditation granted by a national accreditation body in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 765/2008. Such accreditation should generally be obtained in an EU Member State in which the CB is established and cover the relevant certification scope under Directive (EU) 2018/2001, within the applicable timelines defined by the regulatory framework.
Where these expectations are not met, the ability of ISCC to process or approve an application for ISCC EU recognition may be affected, subject to further clarification or updates from the European Commission.
The ISCC CB application process follows six key steps:

The applicant CB submits the application form and required documents, accepts the application terms, and pays the application fee after receiving the ISCC invoice.

Initial review and due diligence
ISCC checks eligibility, completeness, compliance, and integrity.

Interview with applicant
ISCC clarifies submitted information and organisational readiness with the applicant CB.

Competence assessment
ISCC reviews the applicant CB’s QMS, procedures, and competence framework.

Decision-making
ISCC decides whether to approve, conditionally approve, reject, or terminate the application process.
As part of the application and evaluation process, ISCC assesses whether the CB can demonstrate:

Valid ISO/IEC 17065:2012 accreditation...... for the relevant ISCC scheme scope, issued by a recognised accreditation body.

A robust certification management system......ensuring independence, impartiality, confidentiality, consistent certification processes, competent decision-making, and effective complaints and appeals handling.

A structured competence framework......covering relevant technical expertise, such as traceability, chain of custody, mass balance, and, where applicable, GHG verification.

Relevant audit capability and experience......including ISCC or comparable scheme experience.

Reliable verification of sustainability, traceability, and GHG requirements......across global supply chains.

Readiness to operate under ISCC integrity and oversight mechanisms......including compliance screening, desk reviews, office audits and witness audits.
